When do I need a Personal Trainer?
When you are overweight, when you are underweight, when you are unfit, when you want to get fitter, when you have just had a baby, when you are in training, when you are bored with training, when the kids have left home, when the Jeans don't fit, when you are too busy to keep fit, when you are going skiing, when Christmas has happened, when Summer is about to happen, when aerobics has got boring, when you can't avoid the mirror, when you always avoid the scales, when you want to!"
I have heard that some personal trainers are not very experienced or qualified. How do I know that you are?
I pride myself in being fully qualified and am happy to show you all my certificates on our initial meeting. I strive to keep at the cutting edge of fitness research with continuous practical and theoretical education. I am a member of National Register of Personal Trainers and Register of Exercise Professionals (REPS) membership number R0028327. I am fully insured and qualified in first aid.
What sort of people are Personal Trainers?
Any trainer you choose should be an energetic, committed, motivating, enthusiastic, bright, sympathetic, dedicated, understanding, busy, interested, professional, healthy, intelligent, flexible, knowledgeable, approachable, confidential, trustworthy, friendly, ordinary person....
Why should I use a Personal Trainer?
Some people are happy to follow their own programme in their own time and place. For those who lack the time, or the motivation, or the energy to train effectively on their own, a Personal Trainer can be the answer. The support, advice and encouragement comes with safe exercise technique to help you avoid injuries.
I only have a small flat, how much room do I need to be able to have a really good training session?
As long as you have enough room to be able to lie down on the floor with your arms out wide, you will be able to have a good training session.
Where will I train?
I will have good knowledge of your local area before you start, ensuring you have plenty of locations for your training. Sessions can take place completely indoors, outdoors, or a mixture of both. Rest assured I will look after all your requirements
How often should I train?
Three times each week should be sufficient for you to start feeling and seeing results. Although, like anything, you will get more out of it if you put more in. Whether you work out with your Trainer every time is up to you, and how motivated you are, how often you can afford to train, what your schedule is like every week. I will provide unsupervised training programmes for the sessions per week when you are on your own ( I will be checking this is done !!!)
Do I need any equipment?
No, I will bring all relevant equipment to your home. Clients are able to purchase their own equipment such as a set of hand weights if they wish.
Do I need to be in reasonable shape before I start?
No, I have lost count of how many clients get back from holiday and say 'I'll book in a couple of weeks when I am a bit fitter'. I prefer to start from scratch, this allows me to completely develop your body, nutritional behaviour and lifestyle to set you up for long term success. So if you don't feel fit enough you should call me now
I know that exercise is good for me, but I do not enjoy it and find it difficult to get myself motivated. What can you do to keep me on the straight and narrow?
I try to make every session as fun and enjoyable as possible, but I do understand that some exercise is a chore rather than a pleasure. I have lots of motivational tools to keep you going so let me worry about that!!!
Can my friend and I take personal training sessions together?
Training with a friend or partner has some benefits. You can help motivate each other, also it can be a cost effective way of receiving guidance from a personal trainer. However I recommend that you are of similar fitness levels and looking to achieve similar results if you want to get the most out of your personal training.
Can you recommend any other professionals?
Yes, I occasionally find useful resources and Healthcare professionals that I think maybe beneficial to my clients. Please see my Useful Links page for more details.
